Four More Ways to Lower Your Cooling Bills This Summer
Open Your Windows
This first tip has a caveat: don’t keep your windows open all day. Instead, open them in the early morning and in the evening if you don’t run your air conditioner at night. Opening your windows during these times allows cool air to fill your home, and you can couple this tip with our last blog’s tip about ceiling fans for a whole-house cooling effect!
Invest In Trees
If you own a home, consider investing in trees to shade your home and your air conditioner from the sun. The shade will obviously prevent your home from heating faster than it normally does, but studies have also shown that shaded AC units tend to be more efficient. Plus, they add to your home’s curb appeal and provide you with even more cover from the sun when you’re out enjoying your backyard.
Avoid the Oven
Nothing will heat your interior quite like cooking over the stove or using your oven. While the heat is initially limited to one small area, it’s dispersed throughout your home and will either make your air conditioner work overtime to compensate, or you’ll be stuck with even warmer air for most of the day.
You can’t always avoid the oven, but we recommend using your grill and taking full advantage of summer whenever possible!
